Relfydess: A New Era in Wrinkle Treatment?

Relfydess is one of the most talked-about and exciting new arrivals in the world of aesthetic medicine — a next-generation botulinum toxin from Galderma. Galderma claim that the 39% of patients see results in the first day and up to 75% of patients still have improvement at six months. These are considerably better statistics than we would expect with our type-A neurotoxins like Botox, Azzalure, and Bocouture.

At McKeown Medical, we were one of the first UK clinics to introduce Relfydess into clinical practice. However, we wanted to understand how the drug performs and what our patients actually think of it in the real world. Without sounding too cynical, drug companies can usually get clinical trials to say what they want them to, and so we wanted to understand what our patients think of it. In the first two weeks of its release, we treated 97 patients using this new toxin. A couple of weeks later, we sent a survey to all of them, and 51 of them replied. These are the results.

What Our Patients Said: Results from Our Feedback Survey

How quickly did Relfydess kick in?

The patients we treated in the first couple of weeks were predominantly patients who had complained of poor results with their previous toxin. Patients were asked to compare the time it took for Relfydess to begin working versus their previous treatments. The responses revealed:

  • A significant number of patients reported that Relfydess kicked in faster than their usual toxin (37 patients, 74%).
  • Others stated the onset was about the same as previous products (9 patients, 18%).
  • Only a small minority felt that the onset was slower (4 patients, 8%).

This suggests that Relfydess performs at least as quickly, and often faster, than established toxins in most patients.

How do the results compare?

When asked, the patient was asked how the aesthetic results of Relfydess compared to previous treatments:

  • A majority felt Relfydess delivered better results and looked better (32 patients, 64%).
  • A smaller group noted the results were about the same. (13 patients, 26%)
  • Only a minority stated they preferred the look from their prior treatment. (5 patients, 10%)

For one patient who was not part of the formal survey, we treated the left side with Relfydess at the standard licensed dose and the other side with Botox at the standard licensed dose. At two weeks, there was a noticeably better reduction in crow’s feet on the Relfydess side compared with the Botox side, which may explain why many patients prefer the aesthetic outcome.

Many patients searching for Botox near me are increasingly asking whether Relfydess could offer superior or longer-lasting results compared with traditional products.

Was it more painful?

A bit issue around Reflydess is that the injections appear to be more painful than regular toxins.

  • Most patients felt that the injections were more painful compared to previous treatments (42 patients, 82%).

Was the extra pain worth it?

For the patients who felt it was more painful, we then asked if they thought the enhanced results were worth the additional discomfort.

The majority (42 patients, 88%) said that the additional discomfort was worth it for the better results they have experienced.

All of these patients were treated in the first two weeks we had the product. Since then, we’ve been adding a small amount of local anaesthetic, which seems to be making the treatment more comfortable. We will audit those results and update you on that soon!

Will they continue using Relfydess?

And perhaps the most important question of all, will they continue to use Relfydess going forward, or would they prefer to go back to their previous toxin?

  • The vast majority (90%) said they would continue with Relfydess.
  • A small number preferred to return to their previous toxin, often due to personal preference for the “look” achieved or individual treatment goals.

It is still too early for us to comment on the longevity of the new product and how that compares, but in terms of early results, our patients seem to be impressed with the new product.

Interpreting the Results: A Promising Alternative for the Right Patients

Relfydess appears to offer a real advantage for a specific subset of patients, particularly those who previously reported diminished results from classic botulinum toxins.

However, it’s worth noting that many of the patients who opted to try Relfydess did so because they were dissatisfied with their outcomes from traditional products. This may skew the overall perception in favour of Relfydess, as these patients had a lower baseline of satisfaction. In individuals who already get excellent results from Botox or similar products, the difference may be less pronounced.

For patients actively searching for relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections near me, it is important to understand that suitability depends on prior response, aesthetic goals, and individual anatomy.

What About Botox Resistance?

A growing concern among long-term users of botulinum toxin is a phenomenon often referred to as “resistance.” While true immunity, where there is no response at all, is very rare, a larger proportion of patients develop partial resistance, where the treatment still works but becomes less effective over time.

In our experience:

  • Patients who feel they are becoming resistant to traditional toxins have shown notably better outcomes with Relfydess.
  • This may be due to differences in the molecular structure or formulation that helps bypass partial neutralisation by the immune system.

However, for the very small number of patients with true immunity (i.e., no effect at all from Botox or similar toxins), we have now treated three such patients with Relfydess, and none of them responded. This suggests that Relfydess may not be effective in cases of complete immunological resistance to botulinum toxin.

Final Thoughts

Relfydess is an exciting new addition to the aesthetic toolbox. Early results from our patients indicate it may:

  • Deliver results more quickly
  • Improve outcomes for patients with poor responses to other toxins
  • Offer a promising option for those experiencing diminishing returns from their usual brand

However, for those who already do well with established toxins, the benefits may be less obvious. And for patients with complete immunity to botulinum toxin, Relfydess does not appear to overcome this barrier.

Why Skin Quality Matters: The Most Overlooked Part of Aesthetic Medicine

Skin quality is the missing piece in aesthetic medicine. Discover why tone, texture and clarity matter—and how lasers and VISIA...

This patient came to the clinic thinking she needed a facelift to get what she wanted. We do facelifts - lots of them. But for this patient, her biggest issue wasn’t loose skin.

It was skin quality, which is something we see a lot of, so we suggested she fix that first. This is the result. Fully ablative resurfacing isn’t easy, but for the right patient, it can be life-changing.

The patient is delighted with her results. What do you think?
Last week marked a huge milestone for us at McKeown Medical.

Our first full lists of major surgical procedures - something we’ve been carefully building towards for several years - and I couldn’t be prouder of this team.

Led by Dr Kavita, we treated patients for breast augmentation (using both implants and fat transfer), breast reduction, uplift surgery and intimate female procedures, with every case approached thoughtfully, calmly and with meticulous care.

What meant the most to me wasn’t just the surgery itself - it was the experience our patients had.

Thanks to Dr Rob and his modern anaesthetic techniques, patients were comfortable, clear-headed and walking around within an hour of surgery - no nausea, no vomiting, just smooth recoveries.

Our wonderful nursing team cared for everyone before and after, and Lorraine kept the entire day running like clockwork behind the scenes.

Moments like this remind me why we’ve taken our time to grow these services properly. We could have rushed this process, but we’ve taken our time to get it right. I never wanted to simply add surgery to the clinic - I wanted to rethink how patients experience the surgical process.

We’re only just getting started, and I’m incredibly excited about what this means for the patients across Scotland and beyond who choose to trust us with their care.
We have an exciting new addition to the clinic - Visia skin analysis.

We’ve had a growing focus in the clinic on skin quality and skin health over the years with more and more investment in lasers and devices that improve skin quality as the foundation of what we do in aesthetic medicine.

The Visia is a great tool for helping us to analyse the skin and track progress of treatments over time. As well as doing a thorough analysis of all the components of sun damage and skin health, it also gives us an estimate of our ’true age’, which is a reflection of the condition of our skin compared with average for our age.

This is one of my own analysis images. It got my ’true age’ pretty much spot on with my chronological age, which is perhaps surprising given that I spent most of the 90s lying under a sun bed. What was interesting is that I scored really well on superficial pigment and redness, which is consistent with the fact that I love BBL and have a treatment a few times per year. I scored less well on deeper pigment and texture issues, which I guess is consistent with the fact that I’ve not had a Halo laser for nearly 4 years now. So I guess I will be booking another Halo for myself very soon!!!

We're offering the Visia skin analysis free as part of our laser consultation process. If you're interested in laser treatment, come in for a consultation with Dr Sharon and you’ll have your analysis done as part of planning your treatment strategy.

You’ll also be scanned again after your course of treatment so we can track your progress.

What do you think of this new addition to the practice?
Laser eye rejuvenation! Thank you to our lovely patient for allowing us to share her photos, just one week after her laser eyelid rejuvenation.

Crepe skin, loose skin, wrinkles are all common signs of ageing around the eye which do not respond well to surgery. The optimal treatment for these problems is laser resurfacing - which is exactly what this patient had.

We’ve been performing these treatments in the clinic for several years, although I’ve recently modified the technique to achieve incredible results with less downtime.
