Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections are used to soften expression lines in the upper face, including the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. Small, precisely placed amounts of botulinum toxin temporarily reduce muscle activity, smoothing lines while preserving natural movement and expression.
What sets Relfydess apart is its formulation. Derived from a different strain of botulinum toxin, early clinical trial data suggest a faster onset and longer duration of effect, with around 75 percent of patients continuing to see visible improvement at six months. McKeown Medical was one of the early UK clinics to adopt Relfydess, introducing it primarily for patients whose results from previous wrinkle relaxing injections had been short-lived or inconsistent.
Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections are well suited to patients seeking subtle, natural-looking results with improved longevity, particularly those who have found previous treatments wear off more quickly than expected. The extended duration reported in early clinical data can mean fewer top-up appointments throughout the year.
Relfydess is most often used to soften lines across the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. Suitability is always assessed during consultation, with skin quality, muscle strength, and overall facial balance reviewed before any treatment is recommended.
Relfydess shares the same core mechanism as other wrinkle relaxing injections, working by temporarily reducing muscle activity to soften expression lines. Each toxin on the market has its own profile, and the right choice for any patient depends on individual factors discussed during consultation. In every case, results depend far more on careful assessment, planning, and injector experience than on the product itself.
Relfydess is often used alongside dermal fillers, skin treatments, or laser procedures to address volume loss and skin quality. Where appropriate, filler can help restore contour and support facial balance as part of a broader, personalised rejuvenation plan tailored to each patient.
Relfydess Wrinkle Relaxing Injections have transformed the way we treat facial ageing, particularly in the upper face. By carefully placing small amounts of botulinum toxin into specific muscles, we can soften the appearance of lines and restore a more relaxed expression.
Relfydess, our newest generation of anti-wrinkle treatment, is derived from a different strain of the botulinum bacteria, and early clinical trial data suggest it offers longer-lasting results than traditional products. In clinical trials, around 75% of patients were still seeing visible improvement at six months. As one of the first clinics in the UK to work with the new product, including carrying out our own clinical trials in practice, we decided to incorporate it into our practice early, particularly as an option for patients who have had poor results with previous toxins.
The only negative effect we have seen from Relfydess Wrinkle Injections so far is that it seems to be a little more painful on injection. The needle calibre is the same, so the initial pin prick feels the same, but there is a sting as the drug is injected under the skin. If the longevity is as good as indicated by the trial data, then this might be a worthwhile price for the enhanced duration of effect.
The change after Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections is typically subtle rather than dramatic. Expression lines across the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes soften, while natural movement is preserved so the face still looks like itself, only more rested. Most patients begin to notice results within one to three days, with the full effect settling over the following week and lasting up to six months in many cases. Individual outcomes vary depending on anatomy, muscle strength, and how the treatment is planned.

Finding the right treatment for you is the most important factor in ensuring that you are on the correct path to achieve the results you desire. Our pre-consultation form helps us to identify your needs and, ultimately, gets you on the right path to achieving your optimal results.
Your consultation focuses on understanding your concerns, facial movement, and medical history. We assess suitability and discuss whether Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections are the most appropriate option for your goals.
A bespoke plan is created by analysing muscle activity at rest and during expression, with injection points and dosing carefully selected to soften lines while maintaining balance, symmetry, and natural movement. The skin is then cleansed and precise injection sites marked. No anaesthetic is required, and preparation is designed to be quick while ensuring accuracy and comfort throughout the procedure.
Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections are administered using ultra-fine needles. The procedure typically takes around 15 minutes, with most patients experiencing only mild, short-lived discomfort.
There is no downtime, and normal activities can be resumed immediately. Results appear within days and continue to develop over two weeks. Follow-up is available to assess and refine outcomes if required.
Your treatment plan will be tailored to your individual needs and the results you are looking to achieve. Despite its enhanced longevity, Relfydess is available at the same price as our classic wrinkle treatments.
A patient before and after treatment at McKeown Medical.
Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections are used to soften dynamic lines caused by repeated muscle movement. Treatment commonly targets frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, mouth corners, and selected neck concerns. In patients where muscle activity combines with volume loss, filler treatments may restore balance.
The benefits of Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections include smoother skin, a more relaxed appearance, and preservation of natural facial movement. Many patients also experience a faster onset and longer-lasting results than traditional wrinkle relaxing injections, reducing the need for frequent repeat treatments.
Treatment of mild frown lines.
The frown lines are one of the most commonly treated areas using wrinkle relaxing injections.
The muscles that we use to frown also depress the brow. By relaxing them and preventing that effect, we can simultaneously lift the brow, making the eyes look more open and awake
Treatment of forehead lines.
The forehead is another area that is commonly treated with wrinkle-relaxing injections.
The forehead muscle, the frontalis, is the only muscle we have for lifting the brow. If we relax it completely, it will cause the brow to drop. It is therefore important to only treat a section of the forehead muscle with anti-wrinkle injections, leaving enough muscle movement to support the brow. Achieving this is a delicate balance and is dependent on the skill and experience of your doctor.
In some cases, where there is significant excess skin and heavy, hooded upper eyelids, it is best not to perform anti-wrinkle treatments on the forehead at all.
Treatment of crow's feet using a combination of wrinkle relaxing injections and cheek filler
Crow’s feet can be effectively treated with a wrinkle-relaxing treatment.
This works especially well for women in their 30s and 40s. When we get into our 50s, however, the muscles around the eyes become very hyper-expressive, compounded by loss of volume from and descent of the cheek.
Our preferred way of addressing this issue is to combine wrinkle relaxing injections with some filler in the cheek. This not only improves the reduction of crows’ feet, but can also help to increase the time between repeat treatments by using a combination approach.
A patient before and after treatment at McKeown Medical.
The depressor anguli ori (or DAO for short) is a muscle that goes from the corner of the mouth down towards the jaw.
Talking, eating, and certain facial expressions cause it to contract, which pulls the corners of the mouth downward. Relaxing it with anti-wrinkle injections has the opposite effect; it elevates the corner of the mouth. This can be quite a difficult effect to achieve and is best suited to younger patients with fine lines.
Lip fillers and fillers for lipstick lines are another way to focus on the mouth area.
A patient before and after treatment at McKeown Medical.
The superficial muscle of the neck, the platysma, usually contracts to pull the neck and lower face downwards. Treating the neck with wrinkle-relaxing injections can help to relax these thick bands, as well as relieve the negative pull on the lower face and neck.
This is not an anti-wrinkle treatment that is suitable for everyone. It is best suited to younger patients who have a thin neck.
Other options are CoolSculpting and a non-surgical facelift.
Understanding what to expect before, during, and after Relfydess wrinkle relaxing injections helps ensure a smooth experience and optimal results. Each stage of treatment is carefully managed, from consultation and preparation through to aftercare and review.
Before treatment, you will attend a consultation to assess facial movement and suitability. We advise avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning supplements where possible and arriving with clean skin on the day of treatment.
Treatment involves a series of precise injections using ultra-fine needles. The procedure typically takes around 15 minutes, with most patients experiencing only mild, short-lived discomfort during injection.
There is no downtime after treatment, and normal activities can be resumed immediately. Results begin to appear within a few days, with full effects developing over two weeks as muscle activity gradually relaxes.
With Relfydess, many patients continue to see visible softening of lines for up to six months, significantly longer than traditional wrinkle-relaxing treatments. While muscle movement may gradually return before then, there is often a delay before lines begin to reappear. It’s typically at that stage that a top-up treatment is advised.
Most patients find they only need to have treatment twice a year to maintain their results, making Reflydess a more convenient and longer-lasting option in the long term.
We often combine Relfydess with other non-surgical treatments, such as hyaluronic acid dermal fillers or targeted laser procedures, to achieve the most natural and balanced results. In many cases, the best outcomes come from a thoughtful combination approach, rather than relying on a single treatment alone.
Treatment with Relfydess is generally very well tolerated. Injections into the upper face are almost pain-free, thanks to the use of ultra-fine needles and skilled technique. Bruising is uncommon, and most patients are able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
The most frequently reported side effect is a mild headache, which may affect up to 1 in 10 patients. In most cases, this resolves within a day or two, though occasionally it can persist for longer. These headaches are typically mild and do not usually require any medication.
As with all botulinum toxin treatments, there is a small risk of the product affecting nearby muscles. In the upper face, this can occasionally result in temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow, though such effects are uncommon and usually resolve within a few weeks. When used in the lower face or neck, there is a small risk of temporary weakness in muscles that control the mouth or speech, though these effects are rare and also temporary.
