At Mckeown Medical, we use different types of laser skin resurfacing to treat various skin conditions, from deep wrinkles to acne scarring. Gentler non-ablative laser treatments restore radiance to skin that has lost its glow.

Our treatments are bespoke for each patient. After a skin consultation at our leading aesthetic clinic, we will design a personalised laser treatment programme for you.

What is laser skin resurfacing?

During this treatment, laser energy removes the damaged outer layer of skin, revealing fresh new skin beneath.

Laser resurfacing treatments cause mild trauma to the skin, activating the body’s natural healing process. This natural process initiates a more rapid turnover of new skin cells and stimulates the growth of new collagen fibres in the treatment area.

An increase in levels of collagen lifts the skin, making it firmer and smoother.

Laser skin resurfacing will leave your skin healthier and more radiant.

Why are lasers so beneficial for skin resurfacing?

Lasers achieve dramatic results with high levels of accuracy so that healthy surrounding skin is unaffected by the treatment.

The gold-standard laser systems that we use are highly controllable and can be used sensitively for different levels of skin damage.

Are lasers suitable for all ages?

Laser skin resurfacing is a powerful anti-ageing treatment. We use it to treat wrinkles, sun damage, enlarged pores, and other signs of ageing skin.

However, we also use lasers to improve the appearance of younger skin, often for patients affected by acne scarring.

Bespoke laser skin resurfacing treatments at McKeown Medical

One of our skin experts will carefully assess your skin, listen to your concerns, and then advise you on the best type of laser resurfacing to treat your skin condition.

Your personalised treatment plan may prescribe more than one type of laser treatment to achieve optimal results.

ProFractional laser treatment

This is our most potent laser treatment. It penetrates the lower skin layers to improve the appearance of the deepest scars.

Many of our patients are concerned about scarring after surgery or trauma. Although removing the scar altogether may not be possible, the ProFractional laser will significantly improve the appearance of most severe scars.

To further enhance the results, we may suggest multiple procedures, including dermal fillers, for this type of scarring.

Full face laser resurfacing

We use the Sciton TRL laser device for full-face laser skin resurfacing. This state-of-the-art laser dramatically improves heavily aged skin with deep wrinkles, skin laxity, and damage from long-term sun exposure.

In this treatment, the outer layer of the skin is removed entirely, leaving fresh new skin. At the same time, the body’s healing response is triggered. The tissues in the treatment area are stimulated to produce high levels of collagen and elastin, that tighten skin and leave it smooth and healthy.

You can learn more about full laser skin resurfacing and see some examples of our work here.

HALO laser treatment

This laser can be used for superficial skin concerns and skin with significant damage. The laser’s power and depth of penetration can be adjusted as appropriate. Like the other lasers, HALO offers exfoliation and collagen induction, lifting and firming the skin.

We use the HALO laser as an anti-ageing treatment for the face and to revitalise the skin on the body. We often use it to treat sun damage on the neck, chest, arms and hands.

BBL laser treatment

This is an ideal treatment for patients who want great results but minimal downtime.

Rather than removing a layer of skin, the BBL laser skin resurfacing uses broad spectrum laser light energy to stimulate collagen production, making skin healthier, firmer, and smoother and reducing the appearance of acne scars.

The laser light also works on unwanted pigmentation, like age spots and broken veins.

You can learn more about BBL and see some before and after pictures here.

Are you ready to start your consultation?

Finding the right treatment for you is the most important factor in ensuring that you are on the correct path to achieve the results you desire. Our pre-consultation form helps us to identify your needs and, ultimately, gets you on the right path to achieving your optimal results.

Does skin resurfacing hurt?

Although the laser may make your skin feel warm, we provide a local anaesthetic to patients, so there should be no discomfort.

How long is the recovery period after laser resurfacing treatment?

This will depend on the type of laser used.

The most invasive type of laser treatment will leave skin red and flakey and in need of extra care. If the treated area is large, we may apply a barrier cream to protect it and give you antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection. The progress of skin healing will be monitored at regular clinic visits.

BBL laser skin resurfacing may leave your skin red and sensitive, but it requires minimal downtime.

When will I see the results of my laser treatment?

Some lasers will leave your skin red and flaky, but this will disappear after a few weeks, and you will start to see your smooth and radiant new skin emerge.

The rates of collagen production will remain high for some time after your laser treatment, so the benefits of your treatment could continue to develop for up to six months.

How long do the benefits of skin resurfacing last?

The results of laser resurfacing treatment are permanent, but some types, including the HALO and BBL treatments, will require maintenance treatments to keep the skin looking its best.

Am I a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

If you are concerned about your skin’s condition because of ageing, sun damage, or scarring, laser skin resurfacing may benefit you.

Our friendly team will be happy to advise you at a consultation.

What is the cost of laser skin resurfacing?

All procedures are bespoke and may include treatment with one or more lasers, so it is impossible to give a typical price.

You can find some indicative prices here.
