Woman’s wellness review

Your assessment begins with an appointment with our nurse who will take a number of blood tests.

The blood tests will include:

  • Full Lipid Profile: Assesses not only cholesterol levels, but other lipids in your blood to give an indication of your cardiovascular health now and in the future.
  • Kidney Function (U&Es) Profile: Evaluates how well your kidneys are working by looking at urea and electrolytes.
  • Magnesium (Mg): Supports bone health, muscle function, and energy production.
  • Vitamin B12: Critical for nerve health, red blood cell formation, and energy levels.
  • Hormone Panel: Includes Testosterone, Prolactin, Luteinizing Hormone, Follicle-Stimulating Hormone, Progesterone, and Oestradiol—key markers for hormone balance and menopausal health.
  • Iron Panel: Measures Total Iron, Transferrin, Ferritin, TIBC, and Transferrin Saturation to detect anaemia or iron overload.
  • C-Reactive Protein (CRP): Identifies inflammation in the body.
  • Folate (Serum): Essential for red blood cell production and DNA synthesis.
  • Glycated Haemoglobin & Plasma Glucose: Monitors blood sugar levels over time and can be used to screen for diabetes.
  • Thyroid Screen (TSH/FT3/FT4): Evaluates thyroid function, which is critical for metabolism and energy.
  • Vitamin D (25-OH): Ensures adequate levels for bone, immune, and overall health.
  • Liver Function Test (LFT): Checks the health of your liver.
  • Full Blood Count: Provides an overview of your general health.
  • CA125: A tumour marker that can help detect ovarian cancer. A negative Ca125 does not guarantee you do not have cancer, but an elevated level indicated further tests may be required.

Follow-up with Dr Iain

You will then come back to the clinic for an appointment with Dr Iain when all of your results are available. At this appointment, Dr Iain will undertake:

Consultation: A one-on-one discussion with a women’s health specialist to explore any symptoms, concerns and your health history.

Baseline physiology: Review of your height, weight, BMI and blood pressure.

Review blood results: Highlighting any irregularities and provide reassurance where appropriate.

Ultrasound Scan: A detailed scan of your uterus and ovaries and pelvis to identify any abnormalities or concerns.

Breast Examination Training: You’ll receive a demonstration from Dr. Iain on the correct technique for self-breast examination, empowering you to monitor your health at home.

As part of this review, we may make some recommendations to improve your lifestyle which should, in turn, improve your overall health. If we identify any significant underlying pathology or unexpected results, we will refer them onwards for appropriate treatment according to your preferences.

After your appointment, you will be sent a comprehensive report of our findings along with any suggestions on how to optimise your health going forward. A copy of this will be sent to your GP, with your consent, so they can also have a copy of our findings.

It’s possible to repeat this health review whenever you like, although we would suggest once every year or two would be adequate.
