Dr. Darren McKeown offers leading Lower Eye Bag Removal treatments in Glasgow.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a straightforward surgery that dramatically improves the eyelid area. This cosmetic procedure removes loose skin from the upper and lower lids, restoring a fresh, youthful appearance.

The eyelid lift and lower eye bag removal are just two cosmetic procedures available at our luxurious facial aesthetics clinic in the UK.

Our surgical team includes one of the best eyelid surgeons in the UK. We offer our patients bespoke procedures with natural-looking results.

What causes drooping upper eyelids?

Drooping eyelids are often a result of the natural ageing process.

The skin and underlying muscle of the upper eyelid become lax, and the skin starts to sag over the lashes, resulting in a hooded appearance above the eye.

Hooded eyelids can also be an inherited characteristic, appearing at a young age.

These changes in the eye area can cause cosmetic and functional problems.

Sagging eyelids can make you look older and more tired than you feel.

The drooping skin can become so slack that, in severe cases, the eyesight is affected, and persistent irritation can develop between the loose skin folds.

An upper eyelid lift will effectively address these issues, leaving you with a wide-eyed, rejuvenated appearance.

What happens during upper eyelid surgery?

Upper eyelid surgery is a straightforward cosmetic procedure typically performed using a local anaesthetic lasting up to an hour.

Your plastic surgeon will make a precise incision in the natural fold above your eyes and trim the excess skin.

Unwanted fat tissue can also be removed if necessary. The best eyelid surgeon approaches fat removal with caution and sensitivity, as less skilled surgeons sometimes remove too much fat, making the eyes look hollow.

Once the blepharoplasty procedure is completed, the incision will be cauterised and closed with stitches.

You can watch an upper blepharoplasty procedure being performed by our blepharoplasty surgeon, Mr Russell Bramhall, here.

How do under-eye bags develop?

Under-eye bags often develop as part of the natural ageing process, as the skin loosens and the underlying muscles become weaker. The laxity of the tissues allows pads of excess fat to bulge forward, creating the appearance of pouches or bags under the eyes. The folds of skin cause shadows and dark circles, making you look tired.

A lower eye bag removal procedure will remove the excess skin and fat, leaving the undereye area smoother and fresher.

Lower blepharoplasty surgery

A lower blepharoplasty is performed using a local anaesthetic. Your plastic surgeon will make an incision in the natural crease close to the lower lash line.

Each lower eyelid surgery is unique, as the ageing process affects the eye area differently. Your eyelid surgeon will remove sagging skin and excess fat and tighten the underlying muscle if necessary.

Once the eyelid surgery is completed, the wound will be closed with stitches.

Recovery from eyelid surgery

Patients go home the same day as their procedure, but our post-operative care will continue with regular checkups to monitor the healing of the incision site.

The delicate skin around your eyes will be bruised and swollen after your blepharoplasty surgery, and most patients choose to wear sunglasses for a while as the swelling settles. Sunglasses are also useful for protecting your eye area from the sun, as it is advisable to stay away from direct sunlight during healing.

What result can I expect?

After eyelid surgery, your eye area will have a far more youthful appearance. Your eyes will look wider and fresher.

Are the benefits of cosmetic procedures for the upper and lower eyelids permanent?

The benefits of surgery are permanent, as the skin that has been removed cannot grow back. The natural ageing process will continue, but eyelid surgery will slow its impact on the eye area.

Many patients choose to have further corrective work performed about 5 to 10 years after their first eyelid surgery.

Does eyelid surgery carry any risks?

Even minor surgery carries risks like infection and bruising, but you can minimise complications by choosing an excellent clinic like McKeown Medical.

Can my blepharoplasty surgery be combined with other cosmetic procedures?

Combining an upper eyelid lift with lower eye bag removal is possible. Some patients have blepharoplasty surgery as part of a facelift.

Your plastic surgeon will discuss your treatment options at your initial consultation.
