LASER RESURFACING TREATMENTS WITH THE LATEST LASER TECHNOLOGY

Laser skin rejuvenation is a procedure designed to improve the appearance and function of the skin. It is normally used to treat signs of sun damage or scarring, especially old acne scars. However, laser skin resurfacing can also reduce facial wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, skin laxity (sagging skin), broken blood vessels, and other skin imperfections on the face, neck, and body.

McKeown Medical is home to a wide range of sophisticated technology, from non-ablative treatments with no downtime all the way through to full ablation for the most effective results. We will tailor your treatment plan to your needs and goals.

Choose McKeown Medical for an effective laser skin resurfacing treatment in Glasgow based on your unique needs.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR LASER RESURFACING?

Laser resurfacing offers a cutting-edge skin rejuvenation method.

There are several resurfacing options, depending on your skin condition, skin type, age, and the degree of improvement you are hoping to achieve.

  • • For patients who want the gentlest treatment that involves no removal of tissue, we use BroadBand Light™ (BBL). This laser treatment is excellent for subtly improving skin texture, reducing pigmentation, the size of pores, and the visibility of blood vessels.
  • • For those who want to achieve more improvement in skin texture, we offer fractional laser resurfacing with the Sciton HALO laser.
  • • For acne scarring, we go even deeper with the ProFractional device.
  • • For patients with the most severely damaged skin, who want the most dramatic and permanent improvement, we offer full-field skin resurfacing with the Contour TRL laser.

We may also use a combination of different laser resurfacing techniques to treat different areas of the face as part of a bespoke treatment plan.

Full Field Resurfacing

Full-field skin resurfacing is the classic technique for laser skin resurfacing. This is a full-face laser treatment that works by removing the entire surface of the skin to allow full regeneration of the skin’s surface and the most dramatic degree of skin rejuvenation.

Performed using local anaesthetic, this is a highly effective treatment option for ingrained or deep wrinkles, especially around the mouth, cheeks, and eyes. The results of this treatment are permanent, although it does require a recovery time of around two weeks.

Fractional Skin Resurfacing

In contrast to the full field skin resurfacing, the HALO laser removes only a proportion — or fraction — of the skin’s surface. This means you get some of the benefits of skin resurfacing but with less downtime and less risk of side effects.

The unique HALO laser is a dual-function laser that combines two different lasers firing simultaneously, targeting both the surface of the skin and the tissues below the surface. Most patients need around 5-7 days of downtime with the HALO laser.

For more details about the fractional resurfacing laser treatments with HALO at our Glasgow clinic, read our treatment page.

Broadband Light™ (BBL) Skin Rejuvenation

Broadband Light — shortened to BBL — is the most gentle type of laser skin rejuvenation. It does not involve burning away any of the tissue of the face, working exclusively in what is known as ‘non-ablative’ mode.

Because it is a non-ablative technique, most patients require no downtime after the treatment. BBL is excellent for improving pigmentation, open pores, blood vessels, and skin texture. This laser skin treatment is suitable for both younger patients who do not need much rejuvenation as well as for more mature patients who don’t want to have a long recovery period. It’s also an excellent option for long-term skin health maintenance, once or twice per year.

ProFractional Laser for Acne Scars

When patients have skin that is bothered by acne scars, we need to treat the bottom layers of the skin where the scars are tethered. To reach the depths of the scars, we use the powerful ProFractional laser.

This laser procedure allows us to accurately get to the bottom of the skin, whilst controlling the fraction of the skin treated. This is typically a one-off procedure with an initial healing process and downtime of around 1 week, although pinkness of the skin can persist for a few months after the treatment.

WHAT IS LASER SKIN RESURFACING?

A laser skin resurfacing procedure can help slow down the signs of ageing, rejuvenate an uneven skin tone, and more.

Invented in 1964, the CO2 laser was one of the earliest laser systems and cosmetic treatments to be developed. The CO2 laser treatment for skin was a cutting-edge and market-leading laser treatment that was known for its incredible versatility in its time. In the 1990s, the erbium laser was developed as an alternative to CO2, which was excellent for removing layers of the skin but with less damage to the surrounding tissue.

With recent advancements within the laser industry, our treatment options have changed to keep in line with the latest technology. The latest advances in aesthetic technology have led to the development of more sophisticated laser skin treatments which yield even greater results, but with improved side effect profiles.

Some of the most advanced laser skin resurfacing treatments to date include HALO, BBL, ProFractional, and Contour TRL.
