Inverted nipple surgery

Inverted nipple correction is a common surgery that many women choose if they are bothered by the appearance of inverted or flat nipples. Not everyone’s nipples are the same as it is quite common to find that women have either flat or inverted nipples. They do not cause any physiological problems, although some women find it embarrassing and would prefer to have more projected nipples.

How Does It Work?

Correcting Inverted Nipples with Surgery

Some people would prefer to have more ‘normal’ looking nipples and so opt to have minor surgery to correct this issue.

This surgery is straightforward with a small procedure done under local anaesthetic with minimal scarring. The breasts (shape and size) will remain the same as before the surgery.

What to Expect

During the Procedure

Local anaesthetic injections are used to numb the skin completely so the procedure will be pain free, despite you being completely awake for your inverted nipple surgery. An incision is then made around the lower half of the nipple, and a small flap of skin and fat from below the nipple is elevated and repositioned below the nipple to project the nipple out. The incisions are then closed with dissolving stitches and the dressings are applied.

Initially the scar will be red and raised, although it normally fades to a barely conspicuous white mark as the months pass by.

After the procedure

The treatment takes about 30-40 minutes per side. Afterwards, you will have a simple, shower-proof dressing.

We will arrange a wound check one week after your procedure and follow up after that at 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months at our Glasgow clinic to make sure you are satisfied with the results of your procedure.
